Upper East Side

The block where we now live on the Upper East Side has this feel to it that I really like. Not pretty or cozy. Most buildings seem to have been here forever. And yet it seems to have everything that I need. The subway is literaly around the corner and there are stores and services everywhere. Even the old corner supermarket sells portuguese bread! It takes time to consider yourself a new yorker. By now, I believe that I am starting to undestand what it would look like to feel that way.

Is it Spring yet?

Now that we have moved to a building that despite being a little too close to Harlem, is 5 minutes away from Central Park, I had imagined that we would be enjoying the sun every weekend once Spring arrived. No, clouds are still around almost every day, leaving me even more homesick that usual. Lisbon's amazing light and sunny days are something that I have gotten used to missing every day. Nonetheless, the little garden downstairs put a smile on my face this week, while I was leaving to work, as I glanced at the bulbs turning into colorful tulips. Come on, Spring, show us some green already! Manhattan's concrete is no longer covered in pretty white snow. After a long, stormy and scary Winter, we need to be reminded that the sun will shine again.
